The Juno mission was launched on 05 August 2011 to study Jupiter from polar orbit for approximately one year beginning in 2016.
The Juno spacecraft ventured closer to Jupiter’s surface than previous spacecraft, passing to within 1.06 R J of its center on its pole-to-pole trajectory. Juno’s magnetometer ( 32 ) sampled at a rate of 64 vector samples/s throughout its closest approach, recording a magnetic field that greatly exceeded expectations based on existing models ( Fig. 6 ).
On July 4, after traveling 1.76 billion-miles, Juno reached its destination. Juno carries eight experiments to achieve these objectives.
